The Land of the Rising Bookings
Japan is expecting a 94% y-o-y surge in hotel bookings compared to the fall season in 2023. The highest surge is shown by leisure family travelers at 117%, followed by leisure solo travelers at 101%. Solo travel is rising by 82%.

America’s Fall Rush to Japan
The top source markets for Japan during the fall season include the U.S., Hong Kong and Australia. Canada, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, South Korea, the UK and France are other important source markets.
From Samba to Sumo: Brazil-Japan Bookings Soar
Japan will see a high surge in the arrival of travelers from Brazil (753%), France (543%) and Indonesia (538%). Other origins showing good booking growth include Indonesia, Mexico, South Korea, Australia, Singapore, the UK and Thailand.

Booking Ahead of the Surge
The advance booking window is expanding from 6 weeks in 2023 to 8 weeks in 2024. Travelers are booking their hotels much longer in advance to ensure availability and better prices.
Short and Sweet
The highest number of hotel bookings are made for trips of LOS of 3-4 days at 36%, followed by trips of LOS of 1-2 days at 32%. Visitors from neighboring countries are visiting Japan for weekends or long weekends.
Coveted Yet Affordable
41% of the hotel bookings are for hotels with ADR $100-200, followed by hotels with ADR $200-300. 16% of bookings are for hotels with ADR between $300 and $500.
Sapporo Sensation
Destinations popular for autumn colors are seeing an unprecedented y-o-y surge in hotel bookings compared to 2023. These include Sapporo (1182%), Kanazawa (288%), Kyoto (243%), Nara (55%) and Nagoya (44%).
